NYC
(via Phil Sharp.)

I can’t stop thinking about it. The thing is, I’ve never gone by myself. Kinda weird. I don’t have any real plans. I kinda want to just go and do whatever. I want to do one touristy thing and that is go to the Empire State Building as early in the morning as possible and as late as possible, if I can afford it. Is it free? Just cause I’ve never been up there before. We’ve tried to go to the Chrysler building, which seemed more amazing than the Empire State but they wouldn’t let us up. I also want to go to as many free museums. And hang out or get lost in several neighborhoods. I’d like to take a train as far it will go. I’d also like to go to Coney Island again. I don’t want to eat a hot dog. I do want to eat a pizza. I don’t want to see the glass Apple store. I have the urge to go to B&H but I’ve been there already. Saw the Met. Saw the Guggenheim. Wouldn’t mind going back to the Met and Natural History Museum. Would love to see a music show or 5. I want to get drunk every night. I want to get drunk every night. Is it a big deal to ride the train at 2am? Do they run that late? I have no idea. Is the Museum of Sex any good? Should I attempt to stalk Vimeo employees? I want to go to New Jersey.

an awesome blurb of consciousness.  haha i love how “i want to get drunk ever night” is repeated.
it is not a big deal to ride the train at 2am - i just did it actually! they do run all night, but its slower at night.  i waited maybe 20 minutes for the train.
i heard the sex museum stinks but havent been.  i love the met and nat history museum!  also love the guggenheim.  cloisters are cool if you’ve never been.  brooklyn museum can be fun as well.  there is a cool bum usually by there who sells books for a buck btw.
not sure whats at coney now, because they supposedly killed it.  fucking sucks man. i  loved coney.  one time i met the leader of the guardian angels in beer island.  i shit you not.  he’s a nice feller.
hoods, huh? well if you want to yell at dirty hipsters, williamsberg is a good place.  esp the bedford stop.  if you want fun bars that have a good assortment of people, a stop or 2 away from that is a good place.  my hood is great if you want dollar stores & shady bodaygas, haha.  my favorite hoods would be the lower east side (LES) and the east village.  west village is good if you wanna see drag queens & all nite erotic shops.
if you dig punk rock i might be able to toss some shows your way. my buddy plays in Skeleton Breath (myspace em and i have a vimeo of em - weird tunes, very hard to describe) and i think they have a show while you are here.
yes to going to see vimeo people.  i havent yet, which is silly because i work ACROSS a park from them.  haha.  so let me know if you wanna go invade their joint.  and by invade i mean bring them cookies and tell them we love them.
ill be around.  give a shout and i can point ya in some good directions.  maybe even take ya to a few joints.
the city is a weird place.  i like it best when theres almost no plan and stuff just happens.  at some point i will have to take you to this secret bowling alley in port authority that is a bumpin club somehow. its  really fucking weird because port authority is probably the scummiest and most ugly station ever and hidden (sometimes you have to pay these bums a dollar to lead you thru the rat maze of the monstrous building) super awesome bar/club/bowling alley. it really makes no sense.
things i would recommend to anyone wandering thru this dirty apple:
martini in grand central, overlooking the thousands of people commuting to and fro
the oldest bar in nyc - under the brooklyn bridge sorta.  on manhattan side
the oldest pub in nyc - in village.  serves only its own beer.  you get a choice of “light” or “dark”.  id go with dark because im an ale drinkin sorta lady.  sawdust and civil war remnants.  fat cat who hangs out.  crazy ny irish. i think its >150 yrs old.
pizza at grimaldi’s.  its fucking dope.  also sorta under brooklyn bridge but on brooklyn side.
walk the brooklyn bridge!  don’t get hit by bikers and take photos!
battery park city.  its by WTC site if you wanna see a big hole in the ground. (eh).  but the park is really nice even tho it overlooks jersey. ha.
eat a pretzel in central park and sit on a giant rock.
in the morning, get a coffee and bagel from the men in boxes.  depending on what part of the city you are in, it can be 1.50 to 3.00 but its the best coffee and bagel ever.
walk everywhere.  fuck trains.  so bring comfy sneaks.  but yes, just wandering places is pretty fun.  so long as you can walk a lot and not get tired.
other random facts for people who arent really familiar w nyc:
“the city”  = Manhattan.  you see, no one REALLY lives there.  everyone who is normal and by that i mean not filthy rich lives in the bronx, brooklyn, queens, or harlem.
NYers are not mean people!  we just talk quickly, walk even quicker, and like getting shit done with as little time and bullshit as possible.  we say FUCK a lot but we really are not shitty people.  we WILL help you if you ask us what the fuck you are looking for.
yeap.  oh and dont take trains in brooklyn or queens til the end of the line.  unless you want to get harassed/mugged/smell human urine/feel like you are in a zoo/hate life.
why anyone wants to go to NJ (unless unluckily for you you live there) is unfathomable.  ok, MAYBE for Wawa or diners.  this i can understand.  OR if a cool pharmacist there wants to take you out.  this has ALMOST gotten me out there.  aaaaaaaaalmost.  haha.
ian broyles came here once.  we drank vitamin water with vodka in it at a parade.  then we snuck into the Plaza hotel and peed in buckets.  then we ate pizza and ranted that dalas verdugo is the internet.  needless to say, im happy to have met him and hope he comes back soon.
but, honestly, the best way to really feel the city is to make it an adventure.  coming here by yourself is awesome because you get to decide what to do and see whenever you feel like it, maybe hours or days or moments before you head there.  or maybe you just stumble upon it.  theres so much wacky shit in this city if you keep your mind open and your feet moving.
