Dsplaced is an exploration of the human belonging - to a city, a country or even oneself. Through voluntary submissions, Displaced illuminates a universal palette of emotions that individuals often spend a lifetime trying to decipher. But most importantly, Dsplaced is an experiment in collective storytelling - and it is our fervent hope that you will become a part of this mosaic. The web is our chosen platform for this expression. We know no other way that will allow us to create a place that overtime will build itself into a rich tapestry of personal stories.
We all got lost. The day we got on that plane or that train. Our addresses were renewed. Timezones changed. Hairstyles upgraded. Languages Adopted. Some of us got lost in transition. While some of us found ourselves on the way. At some point or another, we have all been through that momentary lapse where we have woken up in a strange room looking up to a strange ceiling, hearing strange voices around us. Because often, we have ended up in Detroit instead of New York or Mombasa instead of Cairo. Because often, we have had to leave our countries - by choice or by force. And mostly because, if we haven’t been dsplaced, then we haven’t really lived.

I moved from Kolkata to Bangalore and now to Singapore. But, Kolkata is home to me. The streets there have a familiar smell. The food is unmatched. There is idealism. And there is idle-ism. Life goes on at the right pace. You just can’t help feeling curious about the people, they intrigue you and yet, you feel so connected.
There is a little bit of paradise tucked away in every corner of the ‘city of joy’. Once you discover it, you are hooked forever!
